Synopsis and Discussion

Air quality levels remain in the Code GREEN range as the Triad remains under summer-like conditions with offshore high pressure helping to sustain a warm and humid air mass for the southeastern United States. Relatively cleaner air off the Gulf of Mexico has kept both pollutants in check and will continue to do so through the weekend. Increasing cloud cover tomorrow and Sunday will further reduce ozone levels, with ozone and particle pollution AQI remaining Code GREEN into Sunday. A cold front moving in from the west will bring widespread showers and storms to the Triad between late Saturday through early Sunday, lowering air quality levels into the middle Code GREEN range Sunday. Clearing skies on Monday will lead to fairly mild and pleasant conditions, elevating ozone levels into the upper Code GREEN range. (Payne) ***Due to increased wildfire risk and severe drought across most of the state, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a statewide ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide.***
