Synopsis and Discussion

With the frontal boundary settling well south of the Triad, skies north of the boundary have cleared out to allow for decent ozone production that has elevated ozone AQI into the lower Code YELLOW range this afternoon. Particle pollution levels are expected to settle in the upper Code GREEN range, but will likely rise again as high pressure moves offshore and allows for the front to retreat northward as a warm front tomorrow. Skies are expected to be a bit more cloudier during the day tomorrow to limit ozone production into the upper Code GREEN range. The weather pattern will become increasingly unsettled late Thursday through Saturday, culminating in a cold front that is expected to move in from the northwest Saturday afternoon. With that said, cloudier skies should limit ozone production through the period to keep ozone AQI Code GREEN, but particle pollution should accumulate ahead of the boundary to elevate particle AQI into the lower Code YELLOW range through late Saturday.
