A dry cold front will move across the Triad this afternoon, with breezy winds preventing pollution concentrations from building up and should allow AQI to remain in the upper Code GREEN range. An upper level low over the northeastern United States will remain in place tomorrow and through the holiday weekend, keeping the Triad under a drier and cooler air mass. The consistent turnover of the air mass should continue to limit ozone and particle pollution from accumulating significantly across the Triad, leading to Code GREEN AQI tomorrow through Sunday. However, an upper level disturbance passes west and south of the Triad on Sunday that will likely increase cloud cover and trap pollution concentrations in the lower portion of the atmosphere. The cloud cover will likely limit ozone from rising out of the Code GREEN range, but particulate matter concentrations will likely rise and approach the upper portion of the Code GREEN range by Sunday afternoon.
